VoIP phones are excellent substitutes for landlines. For a fraction of the price of PBX or regular phone lines, they provide improved call quality and dependability. However, problems can arise with even the best technologies. You understand the aggravation if you've ever been on a VoIP call with choppy audio, failed connections, or artificial voices. Communication problems caused 83% of businesses to lose a customer, miss a significant deadline, or fire an employee. You don't want it to happen to you because of a VoIP issue that can be readily fixed with the correct information and tools.

Common VoIP Quality Issues

There, you may get multiple kinds of issues when using VoIP services.

Low Bandwidth

Low bandwidth can be an issue because each VoIP call needs a specific quantity of information capacity. If your internet is not fast (with high speed) or if too many devices are competing for bandwidth, audio can become distorted or cut out.

Choppy or Interrupted Voice

Choppy or Interrupted voice is a common issue in a VoIP system. You should check your internet connection and match the minimum required internet bandwidth speed. If you are getting the same problem, you should also check the speed of download (Insufficient upload/download speeds can occur). Turn on Quality of Service on your router to give VoIP traffic precedence and refresh your internet connection, also.

Delay, or latency

When a conference call is going on (one person talks and the other hears it), there is a lag caused by latency. Conversations feel weird when latency is high.

Network Jitter

Jitter can happen when voice data packets arrive at uneven times. This causes gaps, distortion, or stuttering in audio.

Packet Loss

Data packets that fail to reach their destination lead to missing parts of speech or silent gaps. Even a small amount of lost packet data can lower call quality.

Hardware and Device Issues

Hardware and device issues can be created if the device is an outdated (not updated versions), poor headsets, or faulty cables can also contribute to degraded audio quality.

Troubleshooting Tips for Better VoIP Quality

If you are facing any kind of issues during a call (using a VoIP service), you can troubleshoot and fix them.

Check Your Internet Connection

If you call getting interrupted, then start with the basic step and run a speed test to measure your upload and download speeds. A VoIP call requires a strong broadband internet connection because a low connection can result in poor audio.

Prioritise VoIP Traffic with QoS

Quality of Service (QoS) settings in your server may set voice packets priority over other internet traffic and this setting reduces jitter and latency by making sure that your VoIP calls receive the quantity of data they require first, even when many different devices are active.

Use Wired Connections

If your internet connection is unstable, Wi-Fi is convenient but can be inconsistent for some time, especially in crowded environments. If it is possible to connect your device to a wired internet connection, you should choose that because it works better than a wireless connection.

Reduce Network Congestion

You need to reduce data consumption because unsynchronised downloads, streaming, or multiple video calls happening at the same time can overload your network.

Be updated with the latest version.

You should check for updates (if you are facing a problem) and fix that issue (if updates are required, do that) and make sure your device is running with the updated version, because updates can fix any minor problem.
